New mahindra Scorpio Facelift Launching 25september

Mahindra has been selling its Scorpio SUV in
the Indian market for over 10 years now
and it has been a constant money spinner
for the Maharashtra-based automaker. It
has received multiple facelifts over this
period and now, there is expected to be a
new one which will be launched sometime in
2015-2016. However, for 2014, Mahindra is
expected to launch a facelifted version
which has already been spotted testing on
multiple occasions. It is expected to get
mostly cosmetic changes both on the inside
and outside but will remain the same
The facelifted Scorpio gets a revised front
and rear end but retains the same overall
design. This is likely to be in a bid to remain
faithful to existing customers and fans of
the SUV. The design of the alloy wheels is
also new. These major changes have given
the Scorpio a squat stance and hopefully
when revealed fully, a more contemporary
look. However, since the Scorpio is sold
across a large price range, we expect that
Mahindra will first facelift only the major
selling version before changing the entire
range much like Toyota has done with the
facelifted Innova.
It is likely that the top-spec variants may
now be offered with projector headlights
and LED tail lamps in a bid to give the
Scorpio a much more blingy appearance, a
move that will appeal to most of the
Scorpio’s customer base. The changes are
also expected to be reflected on the Scorpio
getaway pick-up truck also.
As with the exteriors, we expect that
Mahindra will retain much of the overall
design on the interiors but will give better
quality materials and is expected to pick up
a lot of the panels, stalks and buttons from
the XUV500. It is also expected to get the
new Voice Activated System which is
currently present in the Xylo H9 variant and
the XUV500. The feature list, in addition to
what is available currently, is expected to
include reverse parking sensors with
camera, rain sensing wipers and AC vents
for the third row on the higher spec
The Scorpio is offered with two sets of
engines- a 2.6-litre diesel producing 115bhp
and 277Nm of torque as well as a more
modern 2.2-litre mHawk oil burner that
produces 120bhp and 290Nm of torque. Both
engines have been mated to a five-speed
manual or in the case of the latter it is also
offered with a six-speed AT box. We expect
that both these engines will continue in BS3
and BS4 specs.
When to expect and price
This vehicle is expected to be launched by
the middle of next year and will be offered
with a slight hike in price (Rs 20,000 to Rs
30,000) due to adverse economic climate and
rising input costs. The Mahindra Scorpio
competes with the Tata Safari, Ford
EcoSport, Renault Duster and the Nissan
