So here we are going to learn all about Global NCAP ratings.

How does Global NCAP work?

They designed a crash test setup for frontal collision between two cars. For that, the car is driven at 64 Kph and collide into a deformable barrier. It is equivalent of a crash test between two cars of the same weight, moving at 50 Kph.

How they rate a car?

After the collision, they study the damages impacted to the dummies placed in it. And, based on that they give points. For example, 17-points for the driver's safety, 49-points for child occupant (18 months to 3 years old) protection etc. are the basic point structure. Whereas, Global NCAP mandates a driver’s side airbag as the minimum requirement to qualify for a one-star rating. Additionally, Global NCAP gives extra points for child restraints systems, three-point seat belts, electronic stability control etc.
